Uganda Airlines has unveiled two new direct routes connecting Entebbe International Airport to Accra, Ghana and Kigali, Rwanda, marking a significant milestone in the carrier’s African expansion strategy. The Accra service begins October 27, 2026, operating four times weekly with Boeing 737‑800 aircraft, while the Kigali route launches November 18, 2026, with Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft and plans to scale up to daily flights.
According to Acting CEO Girma Wake, the new routes are designed to strengthen regional integration, trade, and tourism. Accra, one of West Africa’s busiest aviation hubs, offers Uganda access to English‑speaking markets and improved connections for travelers moving between Africa and the United States. Kigali, meanwhile, deepens ties within the East African Community, facilitating smoother travel for business and leisure.
Uganda’s Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, described the expansion as “deliberate and strategic,” aligning with the National Development Plan IV and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The government has also announced a fleet expansion program, including orders for eight new Boeing aircraft and two freighters, positioning Uganda Airlines for long‑haul operations and cargo services.
For tourism partners, these routes open new opportunities to package multi‑country safaris — combining gorilla trekking in Uganda with cultural and wildlife experiences in Rwanda and West Africa. The expansion underscores Uganda Airlines’ mission to serve as a catalyst for trade, tourism, and investment across Africa.
